The Skylark I is a miniature UAV designed as a man-portable system for tactical surveillance and reconnaissance. It is hand-launched and equipped with a daylight CCD camera or an optional FLIR for night operations. During flights, it transmits real-time video to a portable ground station. Recovery involves a deep stall manoeuvre, landing on a small inflatable cushion. The Skylark I has an operational range of 20–40 km.
The Skylark I is used by the armed forces of Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Israel, Macedonia, Myanmar, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, and Sweden. It has seen deployment in Afghanistan and Iraq, and in March 2008, was selected by France’s special forces (Commando Parachutiste de l'Air n° 10). Previous operators, including Australia and Canada, have since retired the system. In total, it has been chosen by over 20 operators worldwide.
